CANTERA, Center for Communication and Popular Education strives to contribute to the development of critical awareness to generate democratic participatory processes by working towards socio-historical transformation defined by the Nicaraguan revolutionary process. CANTERA approaches this through the methodology of popular education.
Founded in 1988, CANTERA is a Nicaraguan, humanitarian, non-profit NGO that is legally recognized by the Nicaraguan government.
CANTERA recognizes the importance to dream for a better world, to think critically, to innovate and to build new paradigms. We share in the daily life experiences and dreams of the people and communities with whom we work who find themselves in vulnerable conditions. These conditions may be defined politically, economically, culturally, educationally, ethically, or spiritually. We work to strengthen individual and communal identities while taking into account their differences.
